A couple of days ago, my husband and I joined a creative masterclass. It was inspiring, full of energy, and packed with insight — but one thing struck me most. So many people in that virtual room had dreams they hadn’t acted on yet. They were waiting. Waiting until the “right moment.” Until they were “good enough.” Until they had more time, more clarity, more courage.
And it got me thinking… how many of us are living in that space between dreaming and doing? How often do we hold ourselves back with thoughts like: “I still have plenty of time.” “I’ll start when I’m ready.” “I just need to get better first.”
Here’s the truth: the world won’t wait for you to feel good enough. And that “perfect moment” you’re waiting for? It doesn’t exist. There will always be something trying to hold you back - fear, comparison, doubt, distraction, perfectionism. But you don’t have to wait for your fear to disappear before you begin. You only need to take the first step with what you already have: your idea, your talent, your curiosity, but mostly your passion.
Don’t stay safe in the comfort of your dream. Dreaming is beautiful, but it doesn’t build your future. Action does. You don’t become good enough before you begin — you become good enough through the process of beginning. You grow by doing. You learn by trying. You improve by moving.
Yes, there will always be someone better. That’s a given. And no — you’ll probably never be fully satisfied with your own creations (none of us are). But that’s not the point. The point is: you have a voice. Your art has something to say. So say it.
Run your own race. Stop comparing yourself to others. Stop scrolling through someone else’s portfolio wondering if you’re behind. You’re not behind — you’re becoming. When I create patterns, I always ask myself: What do I want to communicate? For me, the answer is simple: I want to make people happy. Whether they see my work on fabric, wallpaper, wrapping paper, or a mug — if it brings a smile, it has done its job. That’s my message. What’s yours?
You don’t need to shout louder than other artists. You just need to speak your truth through your work. Stay curious. Stay kind. Stay consistent. Create with intention, not competition.
So let me ask you: what’s holding you back? Are you still waiting for the perfect time — or have you already started and feel frustrated, maybe even discouraged?
Wherever you are in your journey, you are not alone. Let’s talk. Let’s grow. Let’s build something — one brave step at a time.
Warm and Inspiring greetings,
